Finding a rental home in metro cities can be a challenging task, leading many to seek help from brokers who know the market well. However, a recent incident in Gurugram has raised concerns about safety. In a Reddit post titled “Girls in Gurugram – Be aware of potential predators posing as brokers," a woman shared her unsettling experience, urging others to stay vigilant.

“Something really strange happened to us today while looking for a place to stay in Phase 1," the woman wrote.

The woman explained that she and her friend were looking for a flat in Phase 1. Her friend, who was out of town, had liked a property because of its location and asked her to check it out.

“She shared the location with me, and we confirmed that this was where we wanted the flat," the woman continued.

Everything seemed normal at first. The broker provided a time for the visit but just 15 minutes before she was supposed to leave, he suddenly sent a new location which was much farther away.

“I immediately told him that this was not where we wanted to stay," she explained but the broker kept insisting that she visit the other location. After several calls, he finally agreed to show her flats in the original area.

“Over the course of an hour, I had about four calls with him, discussing various details, and he was strangely persistent about me coming to visit," she said.

Sensing something was off, she made the smart decision of not going alone and took a male friend with her. She informed the broker of her estimated arrival time and he claimed he was already waiting at the location.

When they reached the spot, they found no apartment buildings but only empty plots and construction sites. The broker was also not present.

“I started calling him, giving him at least 10-15 calls, but he never answered. My friend called him too but again he didn’t pick up," the woman said.

As they stood there, they noticed two men on bikes parked at a distance who were staring directly at them. One of them had a phone in his hand. Thinking they might know something, she and her friend started walking towards them, but the moment they approached, the men quickly started their bikes and sped away. She tried calling the broker again, but she found that he had blocked her number.

“We left the location and meanwhile my friend called her from a different number and he immediately picked up – he quickly hung up and blocked that number as well," she wrote.

The whole situation felt like a trap and she couldn’t stop thinking about what might have happened if she had been alone.

“At that moment, I silently thanked God I hadn’t come alone. I have a strong feeling that this person was deliberately trying to lure me there alone—for god knows what, I don’t even want to imagine. And given that this is Gurgaon, I don’t think I’m overthinking at all!! So yes, please be aware and stay safe, girls!" she concluded.

In the comment section, many users urged the woman to take action and warned others to stay cautious.

A lawyer shared, “I have heard some cases of molestation filed by several women against many brokers in Gurgaon. So, ladies please be cautious, always visit the brokers’ office to see and verify details and never go alone."

Another suggested, “Damn, WTF is happening in this country. Give his number on the cybercrime website with all the details and call the women’s helpline number and register a complaint on his number as he will target others too."

“Should go to the police miss. This guy must be a creep and would try this again with other women. You should report them," insisted an individual.
